Climbing in the World's Most Dramatic Karst Landscape

Chinaโ€™s towering limestone karst peaks have made it one of Asiaโ€™s most celebrated climbing destinations. The region offers over 300 established sport routes ranging from beginner-friendly single-pitch climbs to challenging multi-pitch adventures that reward experienced climbers with breathtaking panoramic views.

The rock is compact limestone โ€” sticky, featured, and extraordinarily beautiful. Routes weave through pockets, crimps, and tufas carved over millions of years of karst erosion. The most iconic venue is Moon Hill, a natural arch visible for miles across China, whose routes range from welcoming 5.8s to demanding 5.12s on the steeper faces.

Our certified instructors tailor every session to your groupโ€™s experience level. Absolute beginners learn footwork, body positioning, and belaying fundamentals on easier routes before progressing to longer climbs as confidence builds. Experienced climbers are taken directly to the best routes at their grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any climbing experience? +
No experience is needed whatsoever. The majority of our guests have never climbed before. Your guide will teach you everything from scratch โ€” how to put on a harness, basic footwork, how to communicate with your belayer, and how to fall safely. We start on easy, well-bolted routes so you can build confidence before moving on to harder terrain.
How fit do I need to be? +
Rock climbing is more about technique than raw fitness. If you can climb a flight of stairs, you can climb. Most beginners are surprised by how accessible it is. That said, a full-day session does involve significant physical effort โ€” we recommend being in reasonable general health. Children as young as 8 and adults well into their 60s regularly take our courses.
What should I wear and bring? +
Wear comfortable, stretchy athletic clothing โ€” nothing baggy that could snag on the rock. Closed-toe shoes are required (we provide climbing shoes). Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water bottle. We handle all the climbing equipment. Avoid wearing jewellery that could catch in a belay device.
Are there routes for experienced climbers? +
Absolutely. China has countless routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.14 on the Yosemite Decimal System. Moon Hill alone has over 60 established routes. For strong climbers we offer full-day sessions focused on routes at your grade, including multi-pitch objectives. Please mention your experience level when booking so we can plan accordingly.
What happens if it rains? +
Light rain can still allow for some climbing depending on the route orientation. Heavy rain makes limestone dangerously slippery and we do not climb in those conditions. In the event of cancellation due to weather, we will reschedule your session at no extra charge, or offer a full refund. We monitor forecasts closely and communicate with you the evening before.
