About China Trailfolk

Not the China you've seen in photos โ€” the one without the tourist crowds. We've spent fifteen years finding it, for English-speaking travelers who want something real.

The China You're Actually Looking For

You've seen the photos. The Great Wall, shoulder to shoulder with a thousand strangers. Guides holding numbered paddles above the crowd. You didn't come this far for that.

What you're actually looking for exists โ€” a village that isn't on the itinerary, cycling rice paddy paths before the tour buses arrive, kayaking quiet rivers where the only sounds are paddles and birds. Easy walks to viewpoints few visitors ever reach.

That's the China we know how to find. And we've spent fifteen years finding it.

  • Over a decade guiding soft outdoor and cultural journeys across China
  • 9 distinct outdoor and cultural experiences
  • Strict small-group policy โ€” max 8โ€“10 per guide
  • English-speaking guides who know the places no map shows

There's a viewpoint above the karst towers where the mist comes in low in the morning โ€” you can see three valleys and hear nothing. You reach it on a quiet village path โ€” no tour group has booked it, and most visitors to Yangshuo never know it's there.

In a village two hours from Guilin, a farmer once insisted we stay for lunch. No menu, no performance. Just a family table, local rice wine, and an afternoon that changed how our guests understood China more than any museum ever could.

"This isn't what I imagined at all."

โ€” what people say at the end of almost every trip we guide

Life is already beautiful.

We just help you see it.

China Trailfolk was born not from a business plan, but from a feeling. We grew up alongside the international community that made Yangshuo its home โ€” climbers and cyclists who arrived for the landscape and stayed for the life. They taught us, candidly and generously, what real travelers actually want. We built this company in 2012 to give it to them.

Fifteen years on, we still design every journey the same way: start with what the landscape offers. Find the version no crowd has found. Then bring people there โ€” small groups, at their pace, with guides who genuinely care where they end up.

"Service that comes from genuine love โ€” for our work, our culture, and our lives."
