Where ancient China lives inside every alleyway

Three journeys available/Small group/English-speaking local guide

Beijing's famous landmarks are magnificent — but the city's real character lives in its hutongs, its morning parks, its medicine halls, and the stories behind five centuries of imperial life.

We offer three distinct ways into Beijing. The first follows the rhythms of old hutong life — tai chi, courtyard meals, craft workshops, and the city's hidden backstreets by rickshaw. The second is a journey into the philosophy of Chinese wellness, from qi gong in the park to acupuncture and a traditional herbal pharmacy. The third steps behind the walls of the Forbidden City, into the world of emperors and imperial tradition.

Each journey stands alone. Each rewards curiosity.

Journey One

Inside the Soul of Old Beijing

A day of hutong life, local traditions & hidden culture

Park → Hutong → Courtyard → Rickshaw

Morning · Park Culture

Tai chi, dancing and morning Beijing

Join locals in a neighbourhood park for the morning rituals that have defined Beijing life for generations — tai chi, communal dancing, music and lively conversation. This is the city before it performs for tourists, unhurried and entirely itself.

Midday · Into the Hutongs

A courtyard lunch and an afternoon of craft

Wander the narrow lanes of the hutongs with your guide, then step inside a traditional courtyard home — a siheyuan — for a homemade lunch shared with a local family. In the afternoon, choose your craft: cloisonné painting, calligraphy, or kite making. The day ends by rickshaw, threading through the alleys as your guide tells old Beijing stories.

Journey Two

Ancient Wisdom of China

A day of traditional Chinese wellness & living philosophy

Qi Gong → TCM Clinic → Pharmacy → Tea
Traditional Chinese medicine herbs in glass jars
Full Day · Mind, Body & Balance

Wellness as it has been practised for millennia

Begin with a peaceful qi gong and tai chi session in a neighbourhood park, then visit a traditional Chinese medicine clinic to learn about pulse diagnosis, tongue reading, and the philosophy of balance and preventative health. Experience acupuncture in a calm setting, enjoy a wellness-inspired lunch, and spend the afternoon at a traditional herbal pharmacy — creating your own wellness sachet and attending a guided tea tasting focused on harmony and health.

The day closes with a herbal foot soak or massage — a restorative ending to a journey that shifts how you understand your own wellbeing.

Journey Three

Behind the Palace Walls

An imperial journey through the Forbidden City

Forbidden City → Qing Dress → Jingshan → Dinner
Full Day · Emperor's Beijing

The stories, symbols and scale of imperial China

Step into the Forbidden City not as a sightseer but as a reader of stories — the symbolism in every roofline, the rituals behind every courtyard, the daily life of Ming and Qing dynasty court. Dress in Qing Dynasty-inspired clothing for a memorable photo session near the palace grounds, discovering what imperial fashion meant and what it communicated.

In the afternoon, climb Jingshan Park for the panoramic view that reveals the full scale of imperial Beijing's design. End the day with an elegant dinner near the Forbidden City — the perfect close to a day steeped in history.
