Foreign driving licences are not valid in mainland China, and international permits are not recognised either. Most travellers choose our licensed Chinese driver-guide, who handles all driving. If you wish to drive yourself, we can advise on obtaining a temporary Chinese permit, which requires lead time and is not guaranteed.

The journeys are easy by design — you ride, relax and take in the scenery while the driving is handled for you. The main consideration is altitude on Tibet and Qinghai routes, where days are spent above 3,000 metres. We build in gradual acclimatisation and keep daily distances comfortable.

The Sichuan–Tibet Highway G318 and Xinjiang routes are best from June to September, when high passes are clear of snow. The Duku Highway typically opens only around June to October. Yunnan routes run comfortably year-round, making them a strong choice outside the summer window.

Yes. Travel to Tibet requires a Tibet Travel Permit, and certain border or restricted areas need additional documentation. We arrange these permits as part of your route planning. Permit timelines change, so we ask travellers to confirm Tibet trips well in advance of the travel dates.

You sleep in the motorhome's built-in beds or at booked campsites and RV parks, with a kitchen, water and power on board. Days mix long scenic drives with stops at villages, lakes, monasteries and viewpoints. We can also blend in nights at guesthouses on longer routes.
